Kati Basti is a specialized external Ayurvedic therapy focusing on the lower back (lumbar region) to relieve pain, stiffness, and inflammation.
Meaning

Kati = lower back/waist

Basti = retaining something inside a boundary

In Kati Basti, warm medicated oil is retained over the lumbar area inside a dough ring for a fixed time.
Procedure

A ring-like structure is made from black gram dough and placed over the patient’s lower back.

Warm medicated oil (Taila)—commonly Mahanarayana Taila, Sahacharadi Taila, Dhanwantaram Taila—is poured into the ring.

Oil temperature is maintained by replacing it periodically with freshly warmed oil.

Duration: generally 20–40 minutes.

Followed by gentle massage and/or fomentation (swedana).
